    NBA Ticket Resellers Locked Out


    As the NBA season continues to be played out in courts of law – instead of on hardwood — ticket resellers appear to be giving up hope.

    Stubhub, a major reseller of pro basketball tickets, this week suspended all sales of future games. “We made the decision to curb resale activity to avoid potential bad experiences for fans,” spokeswoman Joellen Ferrer says. If the season remains suspended, ticket buyers would have to return tickets and wait for refunds, while sellers would send out “tickets for nothing.”

    A Hidden Cost of the NBA Lockout


    Even though season-ticket holders will get full refunds – plus interest — for any games missed due to the National Basketball Association’s lockout, those who planned to resell their seats still stand to lose hundreds of dollars.

    Many fans sell a portion of their seats each year to help defray the hefty costs of the season plan, but with two weeks of games already canceled and no signs the labor dispute will be resolved, ticket holders stand to lose much more. This practice, once considered scalping, has been legitimized by professional sports, which even designate sites such as Ticketmaster and Stubhub as “official resellers” expressly for this purpose.

    Some Fans Will Profit From NBA Lockout


    With at least the first two weeks of the National Basketball Association’s season unceremoniously canceled over the labor dispute, there is one small consolation: It’s league policy to offer refunds for any missed games – plus interest. Fans with tickets for cancelled games can also get credit toward tickets later in the season, according to the NBA.

    Interest, though, is a novel twist. Some teams are paying as much as 2% — far better than many savings accounts these days – but the terms vary from team to team and may require actuarial math.

    Dr Pepper: Real Men Don’t Drink Diet


    Dr Pepper is going low-calorie, high-testosterone in an effort to court the image-conscious manly man, who wants a diet soda that doesn’t say “diet soda.” Much like Coca-Cola’s Coke Zero, Dr Pepper Ten – a soda with 10 calories, get it? – aims to be a cooler, male brand.

    The message is explicit: “It’s not for women,” the ads say. Dr Pepper Ten will feature a “gunmetal gray” color scheme and “industrial rivets.” It does sound more like a piece of artillery than a drink.

    With that in mind, will making it a man-only zone backfire? Matt Wallaert, social and behavior psychologist of digital strategy firm, likes the no-diet compromise, but isn’t sold on the marketing tactics: “Would I have gone heavy handed with the marketing? No way,” he says. “It now makes Dr Pepper Ten too overt of a machismo statement, which will turn off some men.”

    As we report today, ticket prices for NFL games have skyrocketed since the end of the lockout on Monday. But not all tickets have moved in lockstep. And while fans want to see their own teams play, for anyone with flexibility, here’s a guide from for the cheapest – and most expensive – prices for the upcoming season:
