It sells when it actually makes sense. I had to purchase a new washer a couple of years ago, and the effient models were significantly more expensive. I did the math to estimate how long it would take for the energy/water savings to make up the difference in price. 15 years. Until the savings are a little more substantial, I’m not going to invest in those models.

Until the prices of these “energy efficient” appliances becomes more reasonable, I am not interested in them. I need bang for my buck, and if that means buying a washer that is a little less “green” than another in order to get good performance, so be it.

This article makes no sense, or the author doesn’t even have the basic familiarity with appliances that would come with reading consumer reports. Energy Star requirements vary widely – In some appliance categories virtually every appliance sold qualifies as Energy Star. Guess What? Energy Star has very high penetration in those categories. Shocking. And in other categories Energy Star is fairly difficult and/or expensive to achieve.
