15 Cars Dealerships Want To Sell For Labor Day

iStockphoto

Car dealerships would like you to think that Labor Day sales make this weekend one of the best times to hit the lot and drive away with a brand new vehicle. That might be true — but only if you’re in the market for a luxury ride, a big truck or an unpopular ride.

Vehicle search-engine Chug looked at the top overstocked models across the country. In theory, you’ll have the most negotiating room on these models this weekend and in coming weeks. But take it with a grain of salt. The Toyota Prius — which is so in-demand that it often commands prices well above sticker price — somehow made it into the number four slot. Second-ranked Ford F-750 is a commercial work truck. A spokesman for Chug says the site maps inventory sites to compare what’s on lots versus what should be there this time of year.

Our take: It’s still a smart idea to confirm local availability and incentives on a site like Kelley Blue Book or Edmunds before venturing out. Here are Chug’s picks for the top 15 overstocked new vehicles:

  1. Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet SUV
  2. Ford Super Duty F-750 Straight Frame truck
  3. Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon
  4. Toyota Prius
  5. Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX
  6. Audi Q5
  7. Chevrolet Volt
  8. Mercedes Benz CLS-Class
  9. Mercedes Benz SLK-Class
  10. BMW 6 Series
  11. Nissan Juke Hatchback
  12. Hyundai Elantra
  13. Volkswagen Touareg
  14. BMW X3
  15. Nissan Rogue

    • Chuck Chug.. either a flawed tool or someone with a political agenda. Waiting lists for the Volts are months long and its not even available most states yet. Even if you find them places like cars.com it because they system included cars that are already pre-sold I know, I tried to find one via cars.com. Gave up and called a Volt advisor and then drove 800 miles to get it. This is st best this is based on dealer orders, not actual inventory. I expect better reporting from smartmoney and wjs.. the reporter should be fired for not checking facts.

    • I’m laughing at the inclusion of the Volt as well….haven’t seen very many in most Chevy dealerships I’ve been to….

    • elantra? prius? you gotta be kidding me.
