Can Facebook Replace the DMV?

Could democracy get a boost by adding voter-registration status to Facebook profiles – along with whether or not the person actually voted? And what if it were possible to register with just a few clicks? As it is, among Americans eligible to vote 30% aren’t even registered, according to Register.org, a non-partisan group that advocates raising participation in elections. Thaler, who is also the author of “Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness,” says he would throw his support behind such an initiative. But some privacy experts believe this could open the door to a new form of political polling and over-sharing by users. “Employers are already scouring Facebook pages to make decisions about their employees,” says Jeffrey Chester of the Center for Digital Democracy.
