Real-Time Advice
Our real-time advice on how market shifts and news impact you and your money

Will Small Banks Squeeze Customers to Repay Loans?

    • I thought the Gillette razor actlrie was very interesting and frustrating at the same time. I personally support Gillette razors and use their products. However, I do not approve of their decision to decrease the cost of their razor products in other countries and charge outrageous prices in America. Yes, I know that most Americans can afford the expensive razors but just because we are able to pay a higher price for a product does not mean we should have to. Ever since I was a child, I have always been fascinated with the shiny new products and have fallen victim to many clever advertisements. Gillette’s newest ad campaign in America is promoting the New Gillette Fusion ProGlide features a razor design very similar to the previous model but with new colors and Thinner blades that reduce friction. Gillette’s commercial is very convincing and was effective enough to persuade me to try out the new product. When I arrived at the men’s grooming section of CVS I was shocked at the price of these new disposable replacement blades. A four pack of the ProGlide blades was around $17. This was about a two dollar increase over the already overpriced predecessor. Another slogan for the campaign should be We cut your beard and your wallet! Since I am on a strict monthly budget I had to make a decision to either buy the new blades or use the money towards taking my girlfriend out to dinner that evening. I decided to do both and used the new and improved razor before dinner. Unfortunately, the razor did not seem to turn my shaving into gliding like the add had so prominently claimed. In fact, I felt like I was using the exact same blade as before with the only difference being the new paint job. The larger lubrication strips and shiny thin blades may add a slight additional comfort, however, these features also wear out more quickly and the need to replace the blades is more frequent. When it all comes down to it the only real factors that enhance shaving are a sharp razor and shaving cream. Yes, five blades are better than one but three is satisfactory. I have not been shaving for very long and just in these past couple years the price of razors and replacement blades have been steadily increasing. In the next few years I would not be surprised if the price of razor blades shaved off customers personal savings by pricing the blades around $50. My final thought is whether or not lazer hair removal is a wise investment economically over shaving with disposable blades for a lifetime.

We’ve had a series of requests for some automated way to center text vertically in a frame, presumably in most cases where you might want to have a text frame with a border and the text inside centered. It just occurred to me that there are tools for making this not so hard, if not easy.
      Step One
Here is our text frame and text, containing the text we wish to use, and the frame the size of the final product.
      Step Two
Use Item > Multiple Duplicate > By Number of Copies, and check Shift Created Items By, but no shift, creating a copy of the frame immediately over the first. Now, right-click the top frame, and Contents > Clear. Set a color for the frame border, and we’ve also then increased line width to 2 points.
      Step Three
Now, in Properties > X,Y,Z shift that empty bordered top frame underneath the one with text and shrink the text frame to the size you wish it to be. Be sure to leave no sizeable gap at the bottom. Select both frames now, either by Shift-clicking the bottom first or click-drag around both.
      Step Four
Bring up Windows > Align and Distribute, make these settings. Sequentially click the center horizontally and center vertically icons (middle in each row).
      VoilГ !
The end result. Note that you can resize either frame, add/delete text, change font size, whatever, then simply re-align the frames.
